A valid referral from your GP or other medical practitioner will need to be forwarded to The Children's Private Medical Group prior to booking an appointment. Unfortunately we cannot book an appointment without a valid referral. Once the referral for your child has been received it is viewed by the specialist to whom it is addressed to ensure your child is allocated an appointment in an appropriate time frame.
If your GP is unsure as to whom to refer your child, they can call reception for advice on 9345 6688 or review the Our Services section of our website, which offers an overview of areas of interest and associated practitioners within the group. Alternatively, your GP can write a generic referral to The Children’s Private Medical Group which will be assessed and triaged by a paediatrician to ensure your child is seen by the most appropriate specialist.
Please ensure the referral has your child’s complete details, including best contact phone number for reception to contact you.
The referring doctor can fax the referral to The Children’s Private Medical Group on 03 9345 6100 or if you have been given the referral, please complete and submit the Patient Referral Upload form. Please ensure the file size is no larger than 5Mb.
Once the referral has been triaged by the specialist, reception will call, SMS or email you usually within 48 hours to make an appointment.
With some of our allied health providers you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate, in which case a valid referral or care plan is required. The allied health provider or receptionist will inform you if this applies. Referrals for allied health practitioners are not essential.
If your child's appointment does not attract a Medicare rebate and you have private health with extras, you may be able to claim the consultation through HICAPS. The Children’s Private Medical Group offers HICAPS, an electronic health claims system that allows you to claim private-health Extras benefits at the time of payment. A health-fund membership card is needed to process your claim on the spot, and you pay the remaining gap if applicable. If you do not have private health the consultation will be a private account.
Please bring any relevant information relating to your child's health e.g. reports, test results or scans.
